Lullaby Music for Sleep

Trying to put a child to sleep can be either the sweetest part of your day or it can be the most challenging! I have experienced it both ways with my own kids. However, it wasn't sleep that first drove me look for kids music, 3 years ago, it was trying to avoid the television on a rainy day when we couldn't go outside to play. My search for kids music brought me across some beautiful lullaby music that I began to implement in my toddlers sleep routine after the birth of his baby brother. I wish that I would have implemented music earlier. I realized after having two kids that I had "no idea" what I was doing with my first. I have experienced that playing music as my kiddos fall asleep not only helps their minds calm, but it helps me stay relaxed too! Now I even play lullaby's for myself when I have difficulty falling asleep.

I have too much music to fit it all in one post so I though I would organize it into categories. This first post is music for sleep. I have music for learning, scripture memory, for a rainy day and others. More to come!

Acoustic Folk w/ Lyrics

Elizabeth Mitchell is an artist recommended to me by a couple friends. Her song titled "Sleep Eye" is a perfect song to put on as you begin your bedtime routine or just as they hop into bed. It's light and bouncy. Elizabeth's soothing voice sweetly signals your little one to prepare for sleep! Your toddler may love this one or may ask you to turn it off! Mine has done both :-)

Titles on my playlist:
1. Sleep Eye
2. You are My Sunshine

Instrumental Piano Music

Honestly, I would just go and buy the whole album by Andrew Holdsworth. Every song I listen to is just magically soothing. I have found his music to help me sleep myself. He takes your classic lullaby and turns them into a sweet dream.

Titles on my playlist:

1. Pop Goes the Weasel
2. London Bridge Is Falling Down
3. Row, Row, Row Your Boat
4. The Wheels on the Bus
5. Rock-A-Bye Baby

Classical Piano Pieces sure to soothe Your Little Ones
Titles by: Lullabyes

1. La valse d'Amelie
Classical piano music, starts out soft and calming and picks up with more intensity in the middle. Probably best to put toward the beginning of your playlist. Beautifully enchanting and moving.

2. Love Me
Sweet sweet.

3. Le Onde
You literally feel your heartbeat and your breathing slow as you listen to the beautiful melodies of this one.

4. You'll Be in My Heart (Tarzan) by: Lullabyes
Cuz ya gotta have some Disney music on your list. This instrumental version uses the nursery bells (I'm sure there's a technical term I don't know) to plunk this one out. Sweet.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider with the Relaxing Sounds by: Nursery Rhymes ABC
I love this one because it has nature sounds, birds and oceans waves in the background.

We Fall Down by: Lullaby Ensemble
This contemporary worship song from the past brings back the warm and fuzzies for me so I had to add it. Beautiful piano/synth, strings version.

My Sunshine by: Lullaby Lullaby
A soft yet peppy instrumental version of this beloved lullaby. 'Cuz lets face it, the lyrics are just a little depressing.

Worship Piano Music

If you are a fan of Bethel's worship music as I am, or if you love contemporary piano arrangements this will not disappoint!

Titles on my Playlist:

1. Spirit Move
2. God I Look to You
3. Deep Cries Out
4. Broken Vessels (Instrumental)

Cecie's Lullaby
A worship leader and songwriter from Bethel Church, Steffany Gretzinger wrote this one. It's a beautiful picture of God our Father, "fathering" holding us in His arms so we can we simply rest. This is a reminder to me as a mom that He is holding me and caring for me in a similar way that I am caring for my child.

Christy Nockels
The song "Head to Toe" gave me the realization that it is when we are asleep that we are the most vulnerable. Not only vulnerable physically, but I think spiritually as well. That's why preparing for sleep is so extremely important. Making bedtime a peace-filled experience is good for mind and heart. Praying before bed allows the mind and spirit to release anxiety. Giving bedtime kisses and hugs and quality time reading with your child helps him or her to feel safe and secure as they drift off to sleep. I absolutely love Christy Nockel's song "Head to Toe" because it does just this, covers your child with the spiritual armor keeping them safe in the spiritual realm. We as moms need this kind of security for ourselves that our little ones are being looked after even when we can't see them.

Titles on My Playlist
1. Keep the Light On
2. The Sound of Music
3. Close Your Eyes
4. Head to Toe (The Armor of God Song)
5. La La Lu

I wish you and your little ones restful sleep. Enjoy!
