SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL

Last night I had to drive home from work in a bad snow storm. It had rained a few hours before it snowed and created a nice slippery coating under the newly fallen snow. I am still not used to my cars anti-lock brake system and have felt little control in these kind of conditions. As I was driving down I-35W I hit an slippery spot and lost all control of the brakes and the steering, I slid right into the side rail. I had spun 180 degrees facing oncoming traffic.

I wasn't hurt at all and was able to drive home, but I couldn't help getting very upset. I couldn't help it get mad at God, I mean isn't He supposed to protect me from these things? I had just prayed the day before that He would help us to pay off the car loan and now here I had caused $500 more of damages! I told myself it was a silly thing to get to upset about and I should be thankful for our good insurance and that I felt completely safe in the vehicle while I was sliding, but I hated the feeling of loosing control. Maybe that is why belief is so hard. We have to lose control. We have to trust that Jesus is who He says He is, even when we don't understand. Believing isn't easy.

Most of us at some point have questioned if God and/or Jesus is real. Many of us are currently unbelieving. What happens is we think, "If God was really who He says He is, then why doesn't He make himself a bit more obvious to me?" "Why doesn't He show up in my life a bit more and prove Himself?"

Today I was reading this...

"When John (the Baptist) heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?'" Matthew 11:2

Here is a prophet sent by God, to make the way for Jesus Christ. Now, after Jesus Christ was born, started his ministry by teaching, healing and doing miracles, John the Baptist was DOUBTING it was even him!!! God sent His Son in the flesh to reveal himself to all humanity and yet John the Baptist wasn't the only one who didn't questioned who Jesus was.

This passage attests to the fact that even if Jesus was standing right in front of our face many of us STILL wouldn't believe he is real. I am reminded of Thomas, one of Jesus followers, who was told that Jesus had risen from the dead, but he didn't believe it. He didn't believe until Jesus walked towards him in the flesh and told him to touch his hands, his feet and his side. (John 20:24-29) The next thing Jesus said was, "...blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

That statement is written to us! We are the people that have never seen Jesus face to face and won't until he comes again, and we are blessed when we believe. So, really we have no excuse not to believe because Jesus already came. He didn't just write on the wall, but he wrote us a book, he doesn't still live among us in the flesh, but he sent His messenger, the Holy Spirit. He is here with us waiting for us to spin out of control, so that He can take control once again and set us on the path towards His blessing.

Be blessed.
